Note that MS Word for Mac and Apple Pages are unsuitable for Farsi. The Mellel recommended by fanej is the best, and TextEdit, Nisus Writer, and Open/Neo/LibreOffice should also work OK. For Adobe apps it is best to use a special 'ME' version.

Mac OS X comes with three different Persian keyboards. Enable them all, try them out, see which one you prefer. (You can also install a different one, if you choose.) Then use the Geeza Pro font to begin with.
